Karen J. McConnell, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, FASHP, FCCP (she/her/hers)

System Vice President, Pharmacy Enterprise; Chief Pharmacy Officer
CommonSpirit Health

Karen McConnell is the System Vice President of the Pharmacy Enterprise and Chief Pharmacy Officer for CommonSpirit Health. CommonSpirit Health has 142 hospitals, 2200 clinics, 40 retail pharmacies and 3 specialty pharmacies located in 22 states. Dr. McConnell leads pharmacy operations, procurement, clinical, retail, ambulatory and telepharmacy services. Her previous role with CommonSpirit was the System Director of Clinical and Contracting Pharmacy Services. Dr. McConnell earned her PharmD degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City and her MBA from Grand Canyon University. She completed a pharmacy practice residency at Cox Medical Center and a specialty residency at Kaiser Permanente Colorado. Dr. McConnell is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist. Previously, she was a clinical director and cardiology subject matter expert for Cardinal Health, providing consultative services and cardiology expertise to large health systems nationwide. She was also a clinical pharmacy specialist at Kaiser Permanente Colorado for 15 years. Dr. McConnell has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and given several presentations at state, national, and international professional meetings. She has also served as principal investigator on several research studies. She is a Fellow of ASHP and a fellow of ACCP.
